Astronomer-mathematician Angelos Anagnostidis , doctor of the University of Göttingen, forewords.
The work of Arisistarchus of Samius "On the magnitudes and degrees of the Sun and the Moon" is one of the few works of the Ancient Greek Mathematicians - Astronomers that have survived. It is one of the first monuments of the application of mathematics in scientific study. This edition of the treatise of Aristarchus is the second to be published in modern Greece. The first (in the form of a pamphlet) was made in 1980 by the late scholar of Ancient Greek mathematics Evangelos Stamatis and was held on the occasion of the 2,300th anniversary of the birth of this great Greek mathematician and astronomer (320 - 240 BC approximately).
