The purpose of this book is to present the positive sciences in the current sense of the term, as they were founded and developed in Ancient Greece.

The term science, as is known, expresses in our time the greatest achievements of the human spirit and human technique. Its origin is Ancient Greek. It is a compound term from "ἐπὶ" and "ἵσταμαι" and has the meaning of knowing. The word "positive" means the safe, the certain, the one based on the data of experience.

By Positive Sciences in Ancient Greece we mean Mathematics (practical and theoretical Arithmetic, Geometry, Trigonometry and Algebra), Astronomy , Physics with its individual chapters (Electricity, Magnetism, Optics, Acoustics, Heat, Hydrostatics, Atomic Theory and Theoretical Mechanics ), Chemistry , Physiology (Zoology, Botany), Medicine , Pharmacy , Meteorology , Geography - Cartography , Geology - Mineralogy , Biology and Geodesy .
