Fron books introduction:
"Our aim in writing this series of books has been to provide texts with a structure suitable for a classroom teaching situation. It is hoped that the organization of the material will relieve the lecturer of some of the load of preparing basic material for routine mathematical technique, allowing him time and scope for individual coverage of additional or specialized aspects of the work. The books are therefore concerned only with basic mathematics and are intended for use in all courses where mathematic is not the primary field of study.
These notes are intended as a guide to the preparation and presentation of the material contained in the four course books: Calculus I, Calculus II, Complex Numbers and Differential Equations and Matrices and Vectors.
Each of these books is divided into chapters which deal with a single mathematical topic, which ideally should form the basis of a single lecture. Each chapter has been designed as a mixture of the following ingredients:
1. Illustrative examples and notes for the students’ pre-lecture reading.
2. Class discussion exercises as a basic for an informal discussion in a lecture or seminar.
3. Graded problems for assignment work."
